Hello Kitty from Japan has the longest history of all the Kitty characters, because she originated in Japan in 1974 in the Sanrio company. At the same time, Sanrio established the the Sanrio Film Corporation of America in Hollywood and gave Hello Kitty a few friends to play with.

The first friends of Hello Kitty from Japan were Patty and Jimmy, so all three characters are a lot older than you would first imagine, although there are many mothers and even some grandmothers who are now introducing the same Hello Kitty the Japanese toys to their children and grand children as they played with themselves.

In 1975, the characters little Twin Stars and My Melody came into existence. The ever-popular Kitty memorabilia began a year later.
